Rogers County Sheriff’s Department Surprises Drivers with Christmas Gift Cards

Rogers County, Oklahoma – For the third consecutive year, the Rogers County Sheriff’s Department spread holiday cheer with early Christmas gifts for drivers, thanks to donations from JT Services in Claremore.

On Thursday, Sheriff Scott Walton traded flashing lights and citations for a brighter alternative—gift cards. JT Services contributed 10 $100 gift cards for the department to distribute to unsuspecting drivers.

“It means a lot because this is our community,” said Sheriff Walton. “To see a gift that people didn’t expect and know that they can use it, it just brings so much warmth to the heart.”

Drivers were initially anxious when asked for their identification.

“I thought, I didn’t know why. I wasn’t speeding,” one driver admitted.

Another shared, “It was the first time I had been pulled over in a long time, so I was a little nervous, especially with a new baby.”

Sheriff Walton quickly turned their nervousness into joy, presenting the gift cards after showing his badge.

Andi Hulette, on her first outing with her week-old baby, expressed her gratitude for the unexpected gesture.

“It’s a blessing in disguise, actually. Yep, having a new baby and a 15-year-old at home. It’s very helpful,” she said.

Donita Smith, a mom enroute to pick up medicine for her flu-stricken kids, was equally moved by the kind gesture.

“This means so much. You guys don’t even realize how much it means. Thank you,” Smith said.

JT Services and Sheriff Walton announced plans to extend this program quarterly throughout the year. So, the next time you see flashing lights in your rearview mirror, don’t panic—it might just be a gift card coming your way.
